Week 8: February 24, 2013

Oatmeal breakfast cookies.  I think I got the hang of using my phone to take pictures and post.  Rapunzel wanted to make sugar cookies but I was not excited about all the work.  She spent the baking time watching tv.  Bubble G and daddy helped out.  Bubble G likes to turn the mixer on.  Daddy helped clean up the dishes.  Everyone ate the cookies today.  Time will tell if they continue to eat them throughout the week.

Week 7: February 17, 2013

We made whole wheat scones this weekend.  Rapunzel does not like dried cranberries in them, so I added some chopped ones to the royal icing instead.  I have not made these in awhile so I forgot how fast they bake. Only about 7 minutes. Both kids only ate a few bites but I enjoyed them with my school friends all week.

Week 6: Feb. 10, 2013

I found pictures I thought were lost.  Enjoy.

Week 6: Daddy bakes

Daddy and Bubble G making pizza.

Week 6: Feb. 10, 2013

Carrot-Pumpkin Bars with Orange Icing this recipe came from Better Homes and Gardens New Baking Book
Only a few spills this week.  Bubble G got to try out the nut grinder and Rapunzel made fresh squeezed orange juice for the icing.  I used frozen pumpkin puree that was from our pumpkin patch pumpkins this year.  The bars tasted more like a bread.  I thought they were yummy.

I used a blog ap on my phone to post this weekend.  I love how fast and easy it was.

Daddy baked pizza

Daddy surprised us all by making homemade pizza.  We all decided the crust tasted better than delivery.

Week 5: Feb. 1, 2013

Rapunzel decided that we should bake a cake for Nana's birthday lunch.  We found a cherry chip box mix and a container of cherry frosting in the pantry. The result of this cake was not pretty but it tasted good. Here is the list of what went wrong:
1.) When beating the batter with Bubble G I forgot to add water.
2.) I did not hear the timer when it went off, luckily the cake was not burned.
3.) The cake stuck to the pans when taking it out.
4.) I could only find a Christmas plate to put the cake on.
5.) When flipping the cake onto the plate, it started to break.
6.) Spreading frosting pulled the cake apart.  The top cake layer started sliding off the bottom.
7.) When Rapunzel added the purple sprinkles, she dumped them all in one spot.
Oh, well at least it was a great memory and reason why I bake cupcakes.

To celebrate the Super Bowl we made smores for dessert. This baking adventure was short, messy, easy to clean up and delicious.

Week 4: Jan. 26, 2013

Sickness was in our household again. What would be easy? Peanut butter balls.  Mix, shape and be done treat.  Both kids helped sample the chocolate chips and form the balls.

Week 3: Jan 19, 2013

I spent the beginning part of the weekend making more fish sugar cookies and marshmallow pops for the birthday party.  We were all sugared out.  I had some brown bananas on the counter calling to be made into bread.  Rapunzel was no where to be seen to help, but Bubble G helped me mix and pour the batter in the pan.  A very simple and delicious weekend of baking.

Week 2 Jan. 12, 2013

Happy 2nd Birthday Little Bubble G!  My little boy is in love with Bubble Guppies.  Naturally he had a Bubble Guppies themed birthday party.  This weekend we made marshmallow fish pops and fish sugar cookies.  I used the left over sugar cookie dough from the weekend before.  It is hard to take pictures while baking because the kids move too fast and my hands almost always have something sticky on them.  Both kids enjoyed using a kitchen mallet to break up graham crackers for sand. Thank you internet for helping make this come to life.

Week 1: Jan. 5, 2013

Every New Year's Day my family gather's together to watch football and enjoy a great meal together.  Well half the family was sick this year, so our New Year's Eve celebration was postponed until the following weekend.  I did not make a pumpkin or apple pie for Thanksgiving this year, so why not make them for New Year's Day.  While I was making pies, I could see no reason not to make snowball cupcakes and sugar cookies as well.  It took two days to make all four items.  The kids helped me peel and slice the apples.  The little Bubble G spilled sugar all over the counter and Rapunzel did a great job using the slicer. Our apple pie was a hit as usual.

A Late Start

While staying cooped up inside for two weeks during Christmas break 2012 with a sick family, I decided that it would be a good idea to start a blog about the adventures of baking something every weekend with the kids.  Even though, my first post is a few weeks late, we have baked one or two things each weekend.
