Week 18: May 27, 2013

Our weekends in May were filled with sickness, parties, recitals and parades.  We are finally back on track. This past Friday our doctor recommended that we all start eating a gluten free diet for individual health reasons.  So this weekend we made Betty Crocker's gluten free brownies and banana Anna frozen ice cream.  The brownies were better than the ones we made a few weeks ago and the recipe was very simple to make.  Rapunzel saw a banana ice cream recipe on the Disney channel where you cut bananas, freeze them and then blend them until they look like ice cream.  She cut and froze the bananas herself.  Two successful gluten free treats!

Week 17: April 28, 2013

Hogson Mill Whole Wheat Gingerbread Mix
Good thing I read the recipe at breakfast because the dough had to be chilled for 2 hours.  I mixed it before church.  Bubble G kept eating the dough I was rolling out, so we gave him a yogurt to eat. He made a big mess with that but, he stopped eating dough. Rapunzel decided that we should make Spring shapes. Then she sang Jiggle Bells the whole time we rolled out the dough.  After cleaning everyone and everything up, Rapunzel added decorations to the cookies with gel icing.  The kids loved the cookies.

Week 16: April 19, 2013

Puppy Chow and S'more Bits
So we had a day off of school due to flooding.  Perfect time to bake. Rapunzel put her tent up and what goes with camping? S'mores.  The s'more bits have graham cracker pieces at the bottom and melted marshmellows with chocolate on top.  The kids loved licking the spoons best.  Puppy chow was for Bubble G.  We had a box of rice cereal no one was eating so why not. Lots of chocolate.  Yum!

Week 15: April 13, 2013

Pamela's chocolate brownie mix
Gluten and dairy free
Rapunzel helped mix the batter.  Very easy dump, mix and pour recipe.  Both kids liked the brownies.  They asked for seconds.  The brownie was soft and a little gritty compared to a flour brownie.

Week 14: April 6, 2013

Chocolate chip cookies with daddy.  The kids helped very little in the making of these cookies.  We all enjoyed eating the cookies, especially me because chocolate chip cookies are my favorite.

Week 13: March 30, 2013

Easter cinnamon rolls from a box mix. By the time the cinnamon rolls were ready for the oven we had become flour monsters.  The kids enjoyed kneading the dough. This event brought back memories of helping my grandma knead church bread. I'm glad I can pass down her love of baking. The cinnamon rolls were enjoyed Easter morning.

Week 12: March 24, 2013

We made cinnamon roll bunnies and chocolate rice chex egg nests with m&ms.  John helped pour the chocolate on the chex.  Annie helped add eyes to the bunny rolls.  Then we shared them with our friends and family at an egg hunt.

Week 11: March 17, 2013

Irish Beer Bread
Aldi had a box mix. It was a great way to celebrate the Irish.  Both kids liked watching the beer fizz. Annie thought the pop bread tasted good.  John liked it, too.

Week 10: March 10, 2013

Our cake was a success! I decided to learn from my Aunt and frost the cake in its pan.  Not a complex recipe because it was a box mix. When trying to take a picture of our finished product Bubble G pretended to fall asleep on the cake.  Silly boy.  Rapunzel learned how to frost cupcakes.

Week 9: March 3, 2013

We baked at Grandma and Grandpa's house. I tried to make an apple puff pastry thing with a coconut lime sauce. Kids spent the baking time playing with toys.  I had to bake this thing a long time because the sauce made the dough soggy. So the thing was under cooked in the middle. The coconut lime sauce did not taste very good either.  The kids ended up prefering their ice cream cones made by Grandpa. Next time I'm following a puff pastry recipe.

Week 8: February 24, 2013

Oatmeal breakfast cookies.  I think I got the hang of using my phone to take pictures and post.  Rapunzel wanted to make sugar cookies but I was not excited about all the work.  She spent the baking time watching tv.  Bubble G and daddy helped out.  Bubble G likes to turn the mixer on.  Daddy helped clean up the dishes.  Everyone ate the cookies today.  Time will tell if they continue to eat them throughout the week.

Week 7: February 17, 2013

We made whole wheat scones this weekend.  Rapunzel does not like dried cranberries in them, so I added some chopped ones to the royal icing instead.  I have not made these in awhile so I forgot how fast they bake. Only about 7 minutes. Both kids only ate a few bites but I enjoyed them with my school friends all week.

Week 6: Feb. 10, 2013

I found pictures I thought were lost.  Enjoy.

Week 6: Daddy bakes

Daddy and Bubble G making pizza.

Week 6: Feb. 10, 2013

Carrot-Pumpkin Bars with Orange Icing this recipe came from Better Homes and Gardens New Baking Book
Only a few spills this week.  Bubble G got to try out the nut grinder and Rapunzel made fresh squeezed orange juice for the icing.  I used frozen pumpkin puree that was from our pumpkin patch pumpkins this year.  The bars tasted more like a bread.  I thought they were yummy.

I used a blog ap on my phone to post this weekend.  I love how fast and easy it was.
